The 2022 figures for disengagement at work

Here are the key figures to remember from this new report.

The engagement rate: among the lowest in the world

The first number that draws our attention to this new study is the engagement rate. Globally, it is considered that only 21% of employees are committed to their company. That is extremely low. However, the European average is even lower, at 14%. It's the region where employees are the least engaged in the world. In France, this figure even falls to 6%.

Most of the workers interviewed mention the fact that they do not find meaning in their missions. They also have limited hope for their future and for the improvement of their working conditions.

Stress is at an unprecedented level

A second figure caught our attention: that of stress at work. 44% of employees feel “most of the time stressed at work”. This is the highest figure ever reached by the study. Anxiety was also measured at its highest level.

Countries in Latin America, South Asia, and North America are particularly affected by this increase in stress levels. In Europe, this figure is slightly lower, at 39%.

Well-being at work is falling sharply

Despite the importance that well-being at work has on the performance and commitment of employees, this figure is falling sharply. Europe and Asia are the most affected regions, with an average decrease of 5%.

This figure shows that workers consider their lives to be worse than before, and that their hope for the future has declined compared to previous years. In regions affected by the decline in well-being, there is a 4% increase in health problems. This figure has declined in most other regions of the world.

Commitment, an essential factor in business performance

These numbers should alarm businesses. Indeed, the engagement rate has a huge impact on performance.

The impact of employee engagement on the company

The engagement rate plays a role at several levels within an organization.

Better employee retention

First of all, it allows for a low turnover rate. An employee committed to his company is motivated by the idea of staying there permanently, and to evolve internally. Retaining talent in the workforce is very important, as it limits the financial cost of recruiting and training. It also allows for stable teams, which is easier to create lasting relationships between the various members of a team.

An asset for your employer brand

Committed employees are also very good ambassadors for your structure. By speaking positively about the company to those around them, they naturally improve its employer brand image. This is a great asset in attracting new talent and retaining them over the long term.

Better productivity

Finally, engaged employees are simply more productive and more enterprising. They can reach the goals set for them more quickly. Investing in actions to improve employee engagement pays off in the long term, as it positively influences company performance.

Actions to take to improve employee engagement

Various factors have an influence on the commitment of your employees.

Offer good working conditions to its employees

First of all, we can mention working conditions. Indeed, it is difficult to thrive in an environment that does not favor them. When it comes to working conditions, it's not just about hardware: organizational, social and psychological factors must also be taken into account. This therefore includes recognition, management, autonomy, or even the involvement of employees in innovation. The well-being of employees is closely linked to these data.

Develop the employee experience

It is the perception of the interactions that your company has with its employees. It starts during the recruitment phase, and ends after they leave.

The employee experience is built day after day with your employees. It is important to define all the stages of their journey within your company (recruitment, onboarding, internal development, etc.). Some actions such as setting up a participatory management or else the involvement of your employees in its CSR policy can have a positive impact on the employee experience.

Implement a turnkey solution to improve engagement

Finally, in addition to these first two elements, you can put in place a solution that will naturally increase the commitment of your employees.

At Teamstarter, we offer a crowdfunding platform for your employees. The principle is simple: each month, each employee is allocated a budget (you decide the amount). On the platform, he can assign this sum to the project of his choice among all those proposed by the company's employees. They then have the mission to make their project a reality as soon as they have reached their budgetary objective.

This type of solution allows employees to engage in projects that are important to them and that are meaningful to them. It is a very simple tool that is interesting to use to increase the involvement of your teams.

The latest studies show that disengagement at work is at an extremely high level in Europe, and particularly in France. However, employee commitment is a determining factor for the overall performance of businesses. It is therefore necessary for organizations to put in place adapted solutions to sustainably engage their teams.
